History of The Shaffer Company

“The Area’s Oldest And Most Reliable Mechanical Contractor”

In 1890, our company began as a small plumbing shop on Summer Street in Bristol, Connecticut. As we grew we included heating, electrical and duct fabrication work.  The company relocated to Main Street in the buildings we occupy today. Our offices and retail store are in the original Bristol Savings Bank building, which housed the Bristol town offices on the 2nd floor (later used by the Bristol Chamber of Commerce in the early 1900’s).

Our company’s motto “Total Mechanical Service” is based on our ability to serve all needs related to the plumbing, heating, air conditioning and sheet metal fabrication fields. From a faucet repair part for the "do-it-yourselfer", to a major industrial plant relocation, our company provides the highest quality in materials and service resulting from experience and know-how dating back 128 years. One of the hallmarks of the Shaffer Company has been our reputation in the trades as a source for hard-to-find parts. We maintain a comprehensive parts supply in plumbing, heating, sheet metal and air conditioning.

Our company’s Residential Service/Installation Department provides our customers full line services in plumbing, heating and air conditioning. Our Licensed Technicians are thoroughly trained and are backed by many years of experience in their trades. The Shaffer Company is a registered apprentice training center for the State of Connecticut and has helped graduate many of the area’s Licensed Technicians.

Our Commercial Department (which includes all non-residential customers from Manufacturing and Industrial to Office and Retail systems) installs, services and maintains many of central Connecticut’s commercial heating, plumbing and air conditioning systems. Whether it’s a complex computer room cooling system or the process piping for the floor of manufacturing plant or a local retail shop, our company has the manpower and expertise to provide the solution.

As the company who installed the first air conditioning system in Bristol, we have built a reputation as specialists in various fields, dating back to the 1950’s when the company was known for its installation of oxygen piping systems in hospitals throughout Connecticut. We enjoy a reputation as experts in everything from installation of multi-unit manufacturing/fabrication work stations to major plant relocations with process piping and plumbing. Additionally, we maintain the heating plants and plumbing systems in many of Central Connecticut’s municipal buildings and schools.

Our office staff, which provides design and engineering skills to the other departments, has members holding a vast field of technical knowledge acquired both through formal training and passed down through many years of experience.

We take great pride in our work as well as our heritage and ongoing culture of quality, efficiency and integrity.

Annual Bristol Children's Holiday Parade

Every year The Shaffer Company partakes in the Children's Holiday Parade. Our staff and friends inflate hundreds of balloons for the children of Bristol. Orange and Red balloons decorate the streets spreading holiday cheer the Shaffer way.

Christmas in August!
